Wounded deer
Eric Lawrence North
GENRE The wounded deer jumps highest in his flight
He tucks and springs like coiled rings and flies
The rifle's snap and bow's tight string resign
The beating heart whose tired ring will chime
One last time
(ooh)
No blaze of glory, chariots of fire
Greet the corpus crumbling to the mire
But soil, fauna, flesh and blood collide
The thud and silence death's queer air confide
(ooh)
Dust I breathe and dust I am tonight
The desert's hush refines my touch and sight
The fire cracks, my eyes go black and close
And still I see that wondrous crеature in repose
He tucks and springs like coiled rings and flies
The rifle's snap and bow's tight string resign
The beating heart whose tired ring will chime
One last time
(ooh)
No blaze of glory, chariots of fire
Greet the corpus crumbling to the mire
But soil, fauna, flesh and blood collide
The thud and silence death's queer air confide
(ooh)
Dust I breathe and dust I am tonight
The desert's hush refines my touch and sight
The fire cracks, my eyes go black and close
And still I see that wondrous crеature in repose
