Armistice Hour
Amit Chaudhuri
GENRE I was sitting on the balcony
Moonlight on the porch
And the night crept through the wrinkles of the sea
And the bougainvillea swayed
To the music that I played
And peace rose in a minstrel’s harmony
Peace glanced at the city from
Soft summer woods
Many had faded before in the morning
Ah comforting night
Bringing love like a blinding light
Fill music in the darkness near the awning
Ah sweet sweet day
It’s the armistice hour
Won’t you understand freedom and learn to be a child
Oh it’s not what they say
Freedom’s not blood and war
Won’t you love your reason and answer the smile
In the apple stalls and busy halls
Angry men roared
And people blamed a monarch in the streets
Oh tell me why I cry
Tell me why we will die
To be seen in obituaries small and neat
Well everyone was dissatisfied
The raging students cried
In the corner a little more blood was scattered
Ah the buses were burning
Tell me what am I learning
How many dreams have been shattered
Moonlight on the porch
And the night crept through the wrinkles of the sea
And the bougainvillea swayed
To the music that I played
And peace rose in a minstrel’s harmony
Peace glanced at the city from
Soft summer woods
Many had faded before in the morning
Ah comforting night
Bringing love like a blinding light
Fill music in the darkness near the awning
Ah sweet sweet day
It’s the armistice hour
Won’t you understand freedom and learn to be a child
Oh it’s not what they say
Freedom’s not blood and war
Won’t you love your reason and answer the smile
In the apple stalls and busy halls
Angry men roared
And people blamed a monarch in the streets
Oh tell me why I cry
Tell me why we will die
To be seen in obituaries small and neat
Well everyone was dissatisfied
The raging students cried
In the corner a little more blood was scattered
Ah the buses were burning
Tell me what am I learning
How many dreams have been shattered
